We believe that the New Testament is historical AND instructional. The following two beliefs make us different from some other churches:
1. Baptism in the Holy Spirit
A term used by John the Baptist and Jesus (Mark 1:8, Acts 1:5). Also seen in the book of Acts (2:1-4, 10:44-48). We believe this is still a relevant experience for every believer today and should be desired.
2. Gifts of the Holy Spirit
The following list is found in 1 Corinthians 12:4-11. For similar lists, check Romans 12:4-8, 1 Corinthians 12:28, and Ephesians 4:11-12.
• Word of wisdom - supernatural wisdom for the moment
• Word of knowledge - knowing something you would not know unless God told you
• Faith - supernatural faith for the moment
• Healing - the ability to heal a person’s body
• Miracles - the ability to do something supernatural
• Prophecy - receiving and delivering a message from God
• Distinguishing Spirits - knowing the difference between the effects of evil spirits or the true Spirit of God
• Tongues - speaking in an unknown language
• Interpretation of Tongues - knowing the meaning of a message given in tongues
