If you came to Chanute Christian Academy's Spring Program, then you were probably inspired by the Bible memorization of our students. Of special note were our 1st and 2nd grade students who memorized an entire book of the Bible- James.
One of the passages recited, Psalm 1, really stood out to me. Here is part of what it says:
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, no sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.
When we choose to delight in God's word instead of seeing it as a chore, we will begin to see the fulfillment of the above words. I believe that memorizing scripture is like sinking our roots down in soil watered by an always running stream of living water!
What about you? Could you memorize such a large amount of scripture as the CCA students have? Should you? The answer is yes and yes! And summer is a great time to do this! Make it a family project or a shared pursuit with your spouse or just a special activity between you and God.
