The fact that Rachel lived to 102 is amazing. That's 37,395 days. But there is something even more amazing, and that is the fact that she lived. If Rachel had died at age 10, her 3 children would not have been born. Her children's 7 children would never have been born. Her 12 great-grandchildren would never have been born. On a personal note, if there is no Kathy, there is no Shane, Bret or Kelsey.
HOW IMPORTANT WAS RACHEL'S LIFE? TO THOSE IN HER GENEALOGY SHE WAS CRITICALLY IMPORTANT. If there is no Rachel, there are none of her children or their descendants.
Rachel is a vital, intricate, essential and absolutely necessary part of your life if you are in her genealogy. SHE WAS MORE THAN A DAUGHTER, A SISTER, A WIFE, or A MOTHER. SHE WAS A LINK...in a genealogical chain.
The Gospel of Luke contains the genealogy of Mary the mother of Jesus. It goes back through David the son of Jesse, the son of Obed. It goes through Jacob the son of Issac the son of Abraham. In between, there are a numerous names of people we know nothing about. But each one is important.
Take out any of these people and there is NO MARY! Take out Rachel and all of her descendants were never born. GENEALOGIES ARE IMPORTANT!
The most important genealogy to be in is the genealogy of God.
John 1:12-- But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name.
There is one common denominator for all of us and that is death. There is also one major difference: some are prepared and some are not.
Shortly after Rachel's 100th birthday, Kathy had the opportunity to talk to her about the importance of being prepared for eternity by making Jesus Lord of her life. She prayed that prayer because she understood, we don't go to heaven because we are good. We go to heaven because of our faith in what Jesus did for us on the cross.
Rachel was an intricate part in many of our physical genealogies. Jesus needs to be the focal point of our spiritual genealogy. Had it not have been for Rachel, many of you would not be here today. If it were not for Jesus, none of us would have the hope of eternal life.
